Customize your Harley® Sportster®
If there’s one thing that Harley-Davidson® bikes are known for, it’s their customizability. It’s what most Harley-Davidson® motorcycle owners get excited about after purchasing a new bike and most don’t waste any time in upgrading them. But there are so many options, it may be difficult to know where to start.
You should know there are three basic areas you can upgrade: in comfort, performance, and style. Here at Wild Fire Harley-Davidson®, we’ve provided some of the basic upgrades you can look into for each area. Comfort
The most important part of owning a motorcycle is making sure it’s comfortable enough to not give you any fatigue as you’re riding. Poor support or a particularly bumpy ride can strain your muscles and aggravate your back and shoulders. If you’re a little too tall for your bike, consider getting the Tallboy setup to help you stretch out a little more. The Tallboy solo seat raises you up for the best riding posture and Tallboy handlebars allow you to relax your arms at just the right length. You can even get the Extended Reach Forward Control Kit to kick your legs out a little more.
If you have the opposite problem and your bike is a little too big for you, you might be more interested in the Reach setup. This will give you the Super Reach Solo Seat which you can adjust to give you the perfect height that will allow you to reach the ground with no problem when you come to a stop. The Reach Handlebar and the Reduced Reach Forward Control conversion kit gives you easy access to the controls at your hands and feet.
Performance
There are a number of performance upgrades you can make as well, so whether you want a cleaner machine, a faster machine, or a smoother machine, there’s probably a part out there that will give you exactly what you want. Some of our favorites include changing up the shocks to give yourself a smoother or stiffer ride, depending on what you want. You can also upgrade your exhaust for a combined performance and aesthetic change. And for an added boost of power and efficiency, try the Heavy Breather Performance Air Cleaner Kit. If you’re a real gearhead, you’ll probably be more interested in the upgrades for your engine, like upgrading the cams and valves. You can even give yourself 10 or more additional horsepower by adjusting the timing mechanisms.
Style
Perhaps the most fun upgrades are the style upgrades. These are virtually unending and stretch about as far as your imagination. Give your bike a new paint job or trick it out with features that give you a classic motorcycle look, like new fenders to give your bike a bobber look. Or, check out the Fat X 5-Spoke wheel to give your ride a chrome touch for a nod to the choppers. Change your gas tank to better suit your style, whether you want a bigger tank for your cruiser style or a smaller tank for a cafe racer. If you’d rather upgrade your handlebars for a special look, there’s the Sportster® Clubman Handlebars for the cruisers.
