Redesigned Softail® Frame

The Sport Glide® comes as the latest in the legendary Softail® family of motorcycles, and it has classic cruiser styling that’s evolved over the generations. But when Harley-Davidson® engineers redesigned the frame for the 2018 model year, their goal was performance. Boy did they hit the mark! The new Softail® frame used by the Sport Glide® is 34% lighter than previous generations of the bike, and it’s also significantly lighter than the original chassis. Both the front and rear suspension received major improvements as well. The Sport Glide® maintains the Softail® family’s iconic hidden rear monoshock system, and this time it’s equipped with 450 lbs of preload capacity that you can adjust with the twist of a knob. Up front, a Showa SDBV suspension system takes the lead. The linear damping, racing-style cartridge forks give you 130mm of suspension travel so that front wheel will always be stuck to the ground for optimal handling.

Milwaukee-Eight Engine

When you twist the throttle on the Sport Glide®, you’ll feel all the power of the new Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine. This engine was initially released last year, but the 2018 Softail®'s are the first to get the Milwaukee-Eight treatment. With 107 cu-in of cylinder displacement and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection, the new engine achieves an astonishing 110 ft-lbs of torque. That translates to a 10% increase in 0-60 mph acceleration over previous Softail® engines as well as a 16% faster 60-80 mph time. The Milwaukee-Eight also contributes some more subtle refinements to the riding experience, too. Its slimmer profile fits the new chassis perfectly, which gives this bike a lower center of gravity and improved handling. The engine also has less mechanical noise for a purer Harley-Davidson® engine growl.

Touring Ready

One of the things that’s really unique about the Sport Glide® is that it’s equipped for light touring, which opens up some amazing options for different riding adventures. Since the engine is counterbalanced and rigid mounted, less vibration is transferred to the rider. This, in combination with the wind-diverting, mini-fairing system helps to reduce overall rider fatigue, especially on longer rides. The dual hard-sided locking saddlebags give you easy access to a generous amount of cargo room, and the bike can handle even more weight *should you need it) thanks to its improved rear suspension.

The Sport Glide® brings together the latest in motorcycle innovation with Harley-Davidson® style and attitude. Harley-Davidson® designers pushed the envelope with all of the performance improvements. And even the smaller features, such as an LED forward-lighting system and keyless ignition, help to put this bike on the cutting edge of motorcycle design.
